Run Time: NTSC 101min/PAL 102min (These are reported lenghts, in reality NTSC runs longer)
Director: Michael O. Sajbel
Cast: Michael Biehn, Brock Pierce, Jennifer Blanc
Smokey Banks (Biehn) is a has-been bullrider who now takes the rides offered by the bottle. After a few wrong turns he's sentenced to community service at the local ranch. He makes a deal to teach one of the kids, Danny, how to ride a bull and after that, he's free to go. The job doesn't give him much joy at first but later he finds his own life being turned around in the process.
The Ride is a touching movie in every sense. It has a very religious tone to it which might be a problem for some viewers but if you can take it, you will find it to be a heart warming experience. It's relaxed, has a couple of funny scenes and it's definately a movie for the whole family.
Michael has done very few movies in his career that are suitable for kids. You can count them with one hand. The Ride is one of those movies. Michael gives a nice performance as Smokey Banks, a man who had all the fame, lost it, got into trouble and with the help of a young boy finds himself again. I felt a bit unease when that boy, Danny, almost forced Smokey to come to faith but it really wasn't such a big issue. And it's just a movie, remember?
