While rescuing an American air crew captured by Mid-Eastern terrorists, Lieutenant Curran and his team of Navy SEALs discover evidence that the terrorists have come into possession of dangerous high-tech weapons. (source: imdb, written by Marg Baskin)

If the definition 'plain & simple action popcorn' ever fitted a movie in Biehn's career, Navy Seals more than meets those requirements. There's no deeper meaning here. The story is paper thin and supposedly the actors tried to bring some depth into it, with little success. I can't even imagine how bad the original script was. Really, it's all about the hi-tech scenes, explosions and gunfights and then some more explosions.

Everytime I watch this movie it always reminds me of Top Gun. Charlie Sheen looks exactly like Tom Cruise and the character is the same kind of young, cocky 'I'm doing things my way' character. The music is also reminicent and all around there's this same kind admiration of what the U.S. army can punch out. Way to go guys!

I read somewhere, maybe an interview where Michael mentioned that making Navy Seals has been the one and only unpleasent experience in his career. The original script was filled with problems and actors fought to express their ideas about the story and where it should go.

Fortunately, as Biehn is professional he doesn't express his dissatisfaction on screen and he works fine with what he's given. It's not a stellar performance but nontheless serious and authentic portrayal of a Seal team leader who's just trying to his job without the hero acts Sheen's character does.

Navy Seals is simple and straighforward action entertainment. You can't deny, although feeling a great deal of shame, that sometimes this movie is fun.
